University of Exeter - international installation
In early 2023, I had the honor of being commissioned by the University of Exeter to create an archival-based artwork that would be installed within the university. This project aimed to bring to life the poignant history of the 1865 cotton famine, a significant yet often overlooked event, through a contemporary lens. Utilizing a range of digital art-making techniques, I developed an augmented reality artwork that retold this crucial story, highlighting the importance of the poems written during that time, which have been carefully preserved in the university's archives.
In June 2023, I traveled to the UK for the installation, where I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the university's environment and engage with the archival materials firsthand. Upon completing the installation, I delivered an artist talk to researchers and students working with the Exeter Poetry Archive. This discussion provided insight into my creative process and the thematic connections between the artwork and its historical context, fostering a deeper understanding of the intersection between art and archival research.

The artwork was subsequently added to the university's permanent collection, ensuring that the narrative of the cotton famine and the voices of the poets will continue to resonate within the academic community and beyond. This project not only allowed me to contribute to a vital historical conversation but also reinforced the role of contemporary art in preserving and reinterpreting the past.
I look forward to exploring similar intersections of history and technology in future projects, using innovative approaches to connect audiences with stories that deserve to be heard.
